Q: Will this cell work both the normal power center for the Pentair Intellichlor and can it also get powered from control board like Intellitouch or Easytouch? Can it also get connected to Intellitouch rs-485 communication wires?

Asked by: Dillon H - 4/30/2024
A: The APEX P40 can be powered from an Intellichlor Power Center.
Regarding the Intellitouch or Easytouch, the cell still connects to a Pentair Power Center and the Intellitouch or Easytouch will merely control the Power Center.
The APEX P40 has no provision for connecting to or communicating via RS-485 data lines.

Q: Does it adjust its chlorine output based on pool mod and spa mode as the Pentair IC40 does?

Asked by: RJS - 9/24/2024
A: The Apex P40 Aftermarket Replacement Cell, along with the P20 and P60 models, can receive power from a Pentair automation system, but controlling and adjusting the cell can only be performed via the cell's attached control module. The APEX P20, 40, and 60 have no provisions for connecting to or communicating via RS-485 data lines.
Consequently, changing between pool and spa modes with the automation system's controls will not change the operation of the Apex cell.

Q: I am looking to use this as a replacement cell in my Pentair system. I see the power is compatible but automation will not occur. Will this cell be able to be scheduled to run at the same time that my automated pump will run, or does it have to be manually turned on each time I use it? Thanks!

Asked by: Keith - 1/12/2025
A: The APX PERFORMANCE P40 Aftermarket Replacement Cell which fits Pentair® IntelliChlor® systems, along with the P20 and P60, will connect to and can be powered by a Pentair® automation device.
These aftermarket replacement cells will power on and off as controlled by the automation unit. However, you will not be able to control other functions of the cell, eg. raise or lower the chlorine output, from the automation unit. Such functions will still need to be conducted manually via the cell's control module.

Q: What is the lifespan of the Apex P40? (For comparison, the Pentair IC40 lifespan is specified to be 10,000 hours or about 5 years of normal use).

Asked by: Keith - 6/5/2024
A: A cell's lifespan is ultimately unique to the pool it is used on, based on the size of the pool, how long the equipment runs every day, the season length, how its water chemistry is maintained, the usage of swimmers, its environment, and more. If sized and used properly, a cell can last years longer than its warranty period.

Q: Does the P-cell P40 have auto polarity change for the cell plates? The Pentair has this which helps to reduce calcium scale build-up, and wondering if your units utilize the same method?

Asked by: Jon R - 7/25/2025
A: Yes, the APX PERFORMANCE P-Series of Aftermarket Replacement Cells employ polarity switching to reduce the pace of deposit formation on the cell plates.
