Q: I have an ic15 pentair but want to replace with the APC 20. Can I do this and use my power supply

Asked by: George minow - 7/13/2025
A: If your power supply is the iChlor Power Pack, then it will only operate iChlor cells. If you have a Pentair Power Center then you can operate iChlor, OEM IntelliChlor cells, and aftermarket cells designed to operate in place of an IntelliChlor.

Q: I currently have an Intellichlor IC-40. I’m thinking it was oversized because I only have an 11,000 gallon pool. Would your APX-P6-20R fit as well as if it were replacing an IC-20? Many thanks for your time.

Asked by: Jenifer Brand - 7/17/2024
A: The cells are outwardly or physically the same so the cell will fit into place. In addition, they can all use the power center from any size system.

Q: I have a Pentair Ease Touch controller. I realize this will not control the settings on the P20 but will this unit power up if connected to this controller and allow for scheduled on off control of the device?

Asked by: Steve C - 7/23/2024
A: If your salt cell is powered by the Pentair IntelliChlor Power Center 520556, then the aftermarket APEX P-Cell will continue to be connected and powered by the same Power Center. If the Power Center is connected to the automation via a RS-485 data cable, the aftermarket P-Cell will not communicate its data or have its settings controlled by this remote data connection. In this case, you would also want to ensure that the 520556 Power Center is getting powered correctly during times that the salt cell should be running. The APEX P-Cell is not intended to have its main cell cable connected to anything other than the Pentair IntelliChlor Power Center 520556.

Q: Having trouble getting chlorine level up in pool, only 0.31 put your ionizer up to 100% , salt level is 3100 ppm, why?

Asked by: Dennis Spears,sr - 9/19/2024
A: Since you are registering a(ny) chlorine level at all, then the system is producing chlorine which suggests that this is a water problem.
When a salt cell is replaced, it is quite common for the pool's water quality to have slipped because the old cell was failing which can often mean green water or algae cropping up. In such an event, unless you treated for phosphates, you most probably have a troublesome level of phosphates feeding a rapid growth of organisms your chlorine is struggling to kill.
Remember, your Free Chlorine is a measure of how much chlorine is left over and not a measure of how much chlorine your salt chlorinator produced in the first place.
Other key factors can include an accumulation of CYA (Stabilizer) or insufficient CYA - it should run 30-50.

Q: What’s it mean when the low flow light's on?

Asked by: Jeremy - 5/11/2025
A: If the Flow Light on an APX Performance P Series Aftermarket Replacement Cell is lit a solid red, then it is not detecting sufficient waterflow to safely generate chlorine. Ensure operation of the pump (at least 20-30 GPM). Check water level, filter pressure, and for air or blockages in PVC plumbing.
If the cause is not apparent, then please call us at (888) 206-9938 Mon-Thu: 9-4:30 or Fri: 9-3pm Central and a member of our support team will assist you.

Q: I currently have a Pentair Ichlor 30 with the power center. I've been plagued with flow sensor failures for the 7 years it's been installed and finally had a cell failure this year. It appears that this will be a drop in replacement for the cell and works with the power center. My question is about the life expectancy of the entire cell and future availability/cost of replacement parts. With proper care I've had my pentair cell last 7 years, far past expectancy. Can I expect the same results from this model? How much are the replacement flow sensor and cell, where can they be purchased and how long do you intend to manufacture them for?

Asked by: Adam - 9/28/2025
A: A key difference between your iChlor 30 salt cell and the APX PERFORMANCE P20 Aftermarket Replacement Cell is that the P20 has a maximum chlorine output which is 20% lower than the iChlor 30, just as an IntelliChlor IC20 produces 30% less at maximum than the iChlor30. Under identical conditions, you should expect either of the 20,000 gallon cells to be outlasted by the 30,000 gallon cell.
As to your other questions, the APX PERFORMANCE P20 Aftermarket Replacement Cell sells very well and demand for this type of cell is expected to remain strong for years to come, The P20 is available for sale here and the flow switch currently retails for $80.17 and will soon be found on our website as well.

Q: I have a Pentair iChlor 30. Can I replace just the cell with this model? It's a 10,000 gallon in-ground pool and I would use the same power pack from the iChlor 30.
